A high water table can affect the stability of hillsides.  Horizontal drains can help lower the water table in a slope and are a common solution for stabilizing hillsides.  Horizontal drain systems are installed by drilling horizontally and installing perforated or slotted pipe into the slope to collect water and convey it to a suitable discharge point.
